“I was born and raised in a charming little village called Ramamangalam in Kerala, right in the heart of Ernakulam district. This place is my family’s ancestral home, and it’s said to be a few centuries old. It is a treasure trove of history, filled with my great-grandfather’s incredible wood sculptures, ancient palm-leaf inscriptions, and hand-drawn family portraits.
You know, the air here is so pure and the sky is so dark that you can see a million stars every night. It’s like a celestial canvas painted just for us. And guess what? Whenever it rains, there’s a power cut, and back in the day, we didn’t mind. We’d just light an oil lantern or a nilavilakku, and everyone would gather around in the warm, golden glow. The smell of burning kerosene would fill the air, and we’d share stories, laughter, and sometimes even gossip. It was like a cozy little gathering place where we could escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
Some of the best stories I have heard were around this rustic old oil lantern— stories of adventure, tall tales from a bygone era, and just pure standup comedy in Malayalam.
